Edgewater High School
Edgewater High School is one of Orlando’s oldest and most visible high school campuses. C.T. Hsu + Associates master planned a complete renovation/construction for the 42-acre campus that addressed issues of school image, sense of entry, space deficiencies and adjacencies, pedestrian and vehicular circulation patterns, site use, and parking. The master plan included a new administration and student services building, renovation of four existing classroom buildings, landscaping and other site improvements.
A new 26,000 GSF media center features a dramatic reading hall, naturally lit by a two-story window wall that overlooks a new public plaza and football field. A monumental stair tower anchors the front façade’s main entrance, and the curved vaulted roof creates a distinct profile that distinguishes the media center from the other classroom buildings. The project earned an Award of Honor for Design Excellence from the American Institute of Architecture, Orlando Chapter.
