MAYOR BUDDY DYER SELECTED AS THE AIA FLORIDA RECIPIENT OF THE BOB GRAHAM ARCHITECTURAL AWARENESS AWARD
ORLANDO, Fla. (August 22, 2012) – The Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Florida) selected Mayor Buddy Dyer as the AIA Florida Recipient of the 2012 Bob Graham Architectural Awareness Award. This award is given to an individual citizen, public official, or member of an allied profession who is not an architect, and who by their interest, activity, and concern for the profession of architecture, shall have advanced the cause of good design and planning and/or contributed to the dignity and value of the architectural profession.
“When we read the award description for the Bob Graham Architectural Awareness Award, the first person we thought of was the City of Orlando’s Mayor Buddy Dyer, and it was our pleasure to nominate him for this award,” said Mr. C.T. Hsu, FAIA, President of C.T. Hsu + Associates, P.A.
Mayor Dyer has spearheaded numerous big picture long range planning projects that are now becoming reality. His bold leadership is truly transforming the cultural and architectural landscape of the Central Florida region. Through his focused effort to advance collaborative visions for policies and projects, he has ‘pushed the envelope’ of the technical, legislative, and legal processes required to make a vision for the future of Central Florida into reality. His many accomplishments have resulted in substantial contributions to the quality of life and the built environment, enhancing both the dignity and value of the architectural profession.
His commitment to good architecture for the City of Orlando and the Central Florida region can be seen in his neighborhood safety and crime prevention efforts, revitalization of Downtown Orlando, transportation, smart growth, and sustainability efforts.
Nathan Butler, AIA, LEED AP, a Principal from C.T. Hsu + Associates, presented the award to Mayor Buddy Dyer at the August 20th City Council meeting. Several members of AIA Florida and AIA Orlando were also present during the recognition of the Mayor including: Mr. Dan Kirby, the incoming AIA Florida’s President; Mr. Michael Lingerfelt, the AIA Florida’s Past President; Mr. Hank Wolf, AIA Orlando’s President; and Ms. Karen Jones, AIA Orlando’s Executive Director.
The 2012 Bob Graham Architectural Awareness Award was initially announced at the AIA Florida Annual Conference held in Palm Beach at The Breakers Palm Beach on July 21, 2012.
“I am truly honored to be recognized for this award from AIA Florida,” said Mayor Buddy Dyer. “I want to thank the Central Florida community for their partnership which has made so many of our accomplishments here in Orlando possible.”
