CTH+A TO DESIGN NEW VCC-UCF JOINT USE FACILITY
ORLANDO, Fla. (September 13, 2007) – C.T. Hsu + Associates has been selected to plan and design Valencia Community College’s West Campus Building 11. The 100,000 SF joint-use facility with the University of Central Florida will provide classroom space, offices and labs, offering bachelor and graduate degrees to an estimated 2,500 students. The facility is slated for completion in 2009.
The joint-use facility is part of the “DirectConnect to UCF” program; a new initiative co-founded in 2006 by UCF and the region’s four community colleges to expand students’ access to higher education. The program is designed give community college students more choices of bachelor’s degree programs in their home counties, allowing them to stay close to families or jobs while continuing their studies.
A survey of West Campus students by VCC in May 2005 found that more than 92 percent planned to pursue a bachelor's degree, and 63 percent of those intended to pursue their degree at UCF. At the time, VCC estimated that 1,100 UCF students live within a five-mile radius of the West Campus.
